Inbound logistics
SPD vs LTL for European Fulfillment Centers
The choice between parcel delivery and pallet freight is an operational decision: it affects how stock is received, checked, stored and made available for the next fulfillment step.
When parcel delivery is a practical fit
Small parcel delivery can work well for lower volumes, replenishments and stock that is already separated into manageable cartons. The key is a complete carton count, tracking reference and SKU-level packing information.
A parcel shipment can still create a complex intake if cartons contain mixed products or each carton has a different instruction. Clear documentation matters more than the delivery method alone.
When pallet freight is a better fit
Palletized freight may be more suitable for larger inbound quantities, dense product assortments or inventory that needs consolidated handling. It can simplify transport, but the warehouse still needs accurate pallet, carton and SKU information.
Before dispatch, confirm the pallet count, dimensions, access requirements and the intended action after receipt. This helps the operation plan space and handling correctly.
Use the fulfillment destination to decide
The best option depends on what happens next: long-term storage, customer orders, marketplace preparation, forwarding or a mixed workflow. A shipment that is economical in transport can still be inefficient if it creates unnecessary repacking or sorting at arrival.
For every inbound shipment, give the warehouse one clear brief: what is arriving, how it is identified, and what should happen after it is checked.
